It began with a series of shared glances in the elementary school pick-up line. Alex and Marisa both found themselves there daily to collect their little sisters after school, quietly noticing one another from across the crowd. At some point, Alex built up the courage to say hi and begin talking to this girl that he would always glance at. One afternoon, a sudden family emergency for Marisa’s father changed everything. Alex stepped in to help, giving him a ride. During the drive, Marisa’s father realized Alex looked familiar—he was the son of an old co-worker. 

As it turned out, their fathers had worked together years prior. In a twist of fate, Marisa had actually visited Alex’s childhood home several times as a young girl while their dads caught up. With the ice officially broken, Alex made the first move to take her out on their first date to In-N-Out on Valentine's day in 2017. Once they connected on an emotional level, they never spent a single day without speaking to one another. While their little sisters and Marisa's niece were the original reason they were at the school, unconditional love, commitment, and loyalty is what has kept them together and strong throughout their relationship ever since.

The journey to the proposal began the moment Alex found the perfect ring. Wanting to create a memory as special as their bond, he planned a surprise getaway to Portland, Oregon—a place Marisa had long dreamed of visiting. He revealed the trip on Christmas Day 2024 by gifting her a new suitcase with their flight passes tucked inside.

On Valentine’s Day 2025, after a day spent exploring the breathtaking scenery along the Oregon-Washington border, they hiked a trail leading to the summit of a stunning waterfall. As the light began to fade and his nerves reached their peak, Alex set up a camera to capture the moment. When he dropped to one knee, Marisa was so stunned she initially thought he was joking—until he opened the ring box. Through tears of joy, she said yes. The night ended with a celebratory dinner and beer flights at a local restaurant, marking the perfect conclusion to a day they would never forget.
